Because FG Wilson generator sets are built around Perkins engines, FG Wilson filter part numbers usually correspond to a Perkins filter. A technician looking at an FG Wilson part number can often find the matching Perkins number, and the reverse. This is why the same filter is sold under both names, and why you should identify a filter by engine model rather than only by the genset brand.
While exact filter part numbers depend on the specific generator model and engine build, the following FG Wilson numbers appear frequently in generator set maintenance:
These numbers are useful references when identifying the correct replacement. Always confirm the exact filter by engine serial number or existing filter part number when possible.

Oil and fuel filters. Replace oil and fuel filters at the intervals in the generator's manual, and always together with the oil change. For 2000 series sets, replace the oil filter and both fuel filters as a set.
Air filters. Replace air filters when the restriction indicator trips, or on schedule. Generator rooms with poor ventilation or sets in dusty sites need much shorter intervals.
Standby sets. Many FG Wilson sets serve as standby units in hospitals, data centres, and buildings and may run only a few hours a year. Replace filters at least annually and keep the fuel clean.
Service intervals depend on the engine model, oil specification, fuel quality, load profile, and whether the generator set is used for standby, prime, or continuous duty. Always follow the operation and maintenance manual for your specific generator set.
Are FG Wilson and Perkins filters the same? In most cases, FG Wilson filter numbers correspond to Perkins filters, because FG Wilson generator sets are built around Perkins engines. The numbers differ but the filter is the same.
What oil filter does a larger FG Wilson set use? On generator sets with Perkins 2206, 2306, 2506 or 2806 engines, the oil filter is commonly FG Wilson 996-452, which corresponds to Perkins CH10929.
Is FG Wilson owned by Caterpillar? Yes. FG Wilson has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar since 2000, and Perkins is also part of Caterpillar.
Can aftermarket filters be used on FG Wilson generators? Yes, if they meet or exceed the original specification for efficiency, flow, and bypass settings. Check warranty and service-agreement terms first.
For generator set owners, rental companies, and distributors sourcing replacement filters for FG Wilson engines and generator sets, ADAOER Filter manufactures fuel, oil, air, and hydraulic filters for generator sets and other diesel machinery, and supports OEM/ODM development for custom specifications. Cross-reference lists are available on request.
Brand names and part numbers are used for identification and compatibility reference only. Caterpillar, Cat, Perkins, Cummins, Fleetguard, and FG Wilson are trademarks of their respective owners. Part numbers vary by engine series, build, and production date, so always verify the correct filter against the engine serial number or the existing filter before ordering.
